Genesis Skye Interview
by Ray | October 15th, 2007I call the girl formerly known as Genesis Skye, around 9PM central standard time.
GENESIS SKYE: I am so wasted! [Laughs] And I’m about to go to bed… How sad is that? I have to go to work in the morning.
RAY: You’re being responsible these days.
GENESIS: I am! It’s crazy… My whole life has changed. I live in a three bedroom townhouse for $800 a month. My apartment in L.A. was the size of the basement! I get up early now. I used to go to the bar until 4AM. You know what it’s like out here, Ray… There’s not much to do besides get drunk and have sex.
RAY: I remember it well.
GENESIS: So wow… I heard Haley Paige died. That’s so crazy. I worked with her. It’s weird that she died… It’s kind of creepy. I’m not very surprised tho. I remember hearing she used a lot of Xanax. I’m so glad I’m home… You have no idea. My boyfriend and I are rehearsing right now. We have a wedding tomorrow. We’re singing the unity song, so we have to write music for it. We haven’t even practiced it yet. I’ve been working. I just started my job about a week ago. I’m the coffee girl at the gas station. [Laughs] It’s awesome. My boss is the shit. I’m full time. I get there at 6am to make sure the coffee is good.
RAY: How long have you been with your boyfriend?
GENESIS: I’ve waited for him for 13 years. We’ve known each other since we were 10. I’ve been in love with him ever since. He always had a crush on me but he never fucking told me. We had sex a couple times back in the day… Hey, if I win this contest I get to be in Maverick Illustrated magazine. Just go to www.myspace.com/maverickmagazine and send them a note that you’re voting for me …..and then CLICK ON THE BANNER on their MySpace page to receive your 24 FREE ISSUES of Maverick Illustrated magazine. Can you mention it on your site?
RAY: Of course. Tell me what life is like for you after porn.
GENESIS: My life is so different now! It’s amazing… I love it. I’m normal. Not ordinary, but normal.
RAY: Do you miss doing porn in L.A?
GENESIS: Sometimes… Just the people who were my friends. The ones who didn’t believe the bullshit. By the way, I love the comment that little bitch [Aaralyn Barra] made under my picture on your myspace page. She said “who’s the crack head?” What’s funny is she didn’t even get into the industry until after I was gone… How dare she. I don’t even know who she is! Where does she get off thinking she has the right to call me a crack head? That’s just rude. And watch — One year from now, she’ll be in my shoes. People will be calling her a crack head. That’s just the way things go in the porn industry. Nobody really cares about you. Very few porn people are good people. Brian Surewood is probably one of my all-time favorite guys, and it’s so sad what happened to him. He’s such a good person. I’m shocked to hear the news. And as for Chico Wang… [Laughs] I really don’t even know how to react to the news that he’s dead. I want to cry, because I was kind of close to him. At the same time, however, I want to laugh. My god… I’m so glad I’m not in L.A. anymore. That was actually the first thing that came out of Jeff Mike’s mouth when I last taked to him. He said “I thought you were dead”. He seriously did. I kept my whereabouts a secret from most people for a while.
RAY: Ultimately, why did you leave L.A.?
GENESIS: I decided it was time to part ways with my boyfriend at the time. He could never get over my past — Even the past I had before I moved to California. There was no moving forward for him.
RAY: I think the number of girls doing adult has tripled since you left.
GENESIS: They’re dumb. [Laughs] I’m not trying to be mean, but seriously — most of those girls are going to end up wanting to kill themselves. Or they’re going to get so strung-out on drugs that they’re not going to work. It’s just the way it goes. These girls are young and dumb. They get into the porn industry not realizing what they’re walking into. You shouldn’t just go fuck some guy because you’re mad at your mom. I can’t say I regret what I’ve done, because I don’t. If I didn’t do it, it wouldn’t have lead me to where I am now. I wouldn’t change any of it. It was fun while it lasted. I learned a huge, important, very valuable and expensive lesson. There are pictures of me floating around the internet where I have bandages on my wrists. If I wouldn’t have experienced all that, I wouldn’t be the person that I am right now. My advice to new girls who are thinking about doing porn is just make sure you know what you’re doing. If you can honestly put yourself ahead one year from now — and look back and know that you’re not going to be ashamed. And understand that these movies are going to be there the rest of your life, and that there is always going to be a chance somebody will find them… New friends, old friends, family… You can’t run from it, you can’t hide from it. If you realize all that and you’re good with it, then go for it. But if you can’t handle that haunting you for the rest of your life, don’t do it. One porn video can ruin the rest of your life. It took me a year and half to figure that out. But I’ve come to terms with everything. It happened. It’s in my past. I’ve moved on.
RAY: What do you wish you could change about the porn industry?
GENESIS: Porn people need to be more normal when having conversations! [Laughs] Seriously, all they ever talk about is sex and porn shit. It’s ridiculous. They’re entire lives revolve around porn. It’s retarded. You can not have an intellectual conversation with an adult film star. You simply can’t.
