Roma Interview
by Ray | May 31st, 2008RAY: You don’t have a last name?
ROMA: No… Not yet. I’ve asked around, but most people felt I should just stick with Roma.
RAY: How about Tony?
ROMA: I’m sharper than you think. I originally wanted my name to be Roma Amor. Mainly because it’s a palindrome — the same thing backwards and forwards. I thought that was amusing, but my agent felt it was “too typical porn star.” So I just stuck with Roma.
RAY: Where are you from?
ROMA: I hail from the valley. Westlake Village, to be exact.
RAY: What year were you born?
ROMA: 1986.
RAY: How did you get into porn?
ROMA: One day I was looking on craigslist for a new job. I found an ad for adult models. It said you could earn between $10-20k per month. So I replied to the ad. Veronica Jett wrote me back. She was recruiting girls for L.A. Direct. We started corresponding. We talked for a few weeks about the industry. The next week I met Derek Hay. The week after that, I did my first shoot. It was for WeLiveTogether.com — I was told it was going to be a girl/girl, but I actually had sex with two super-gorgeous girls. Oh my god, they were amazing. So pretty. Darling girls.
RAY: How did you feel after that?
ROMA: I felt great! It was a little empowering. I had been with girls before, but never with two at the same time.
RAY: How come I never see you at parties?
ROMA: I don’t go to parties. I’m not into the whole drug scene. I try to keep my private life private. And my on-screen life…
RAY: Pubic.
ROMA: [Laughs] That too.
RAY: I hope not.
ROMA: I wax.
ROMA: Well, yes. At first. It slowed-down within a couple of months. I’ve been doing it about a year now. Unfortunately it’s been very inconsistent. I probably wouldn’t have done porn had I known that prior to starting.
RAY: Tell me about the pink diamond on your neck.
ROMA: My tattoo. Well… Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I actually got this one with my best friend.
RAY: What’s something about you most people wouldn’t expect?
ROMA: That I’m a nice Jewish girl, and I come from a good family.
RAY: Was your family shocked that you do porn?
ROMA: Yeah. I told them in a therapy session. My dad lost it. He was crying. My brother was seventeen at the time. I had to tell him too. It was a little awkward. We had been having family therapy sessions for some time — just to sort out normal everyday issues. It wasn’t because we were a fucked-up family. It was to prevent anything from getting too fucked-up. My parents are both in child-development and education. They’re smart people.
RAY: How far into your career did your revelation come?
ROMA: I told them right away. We’re very close. I said “mom and dad… I found a job. You’re not going to like it. But you’re going to have to trust me. This is what I want to do for now. It’s not going to be forever — I know that. But you’re not going to change my mind.” They were pretty upset at first. Now it’s kind of a joke with them. My dad will say things like “why don’t you introduce me to your agent?” [Laughs] That would be quite an experience. My dad’s bald too.
RAY: What do you want to do when you grow up?
ROMA: I went to junior college for two years. I didn’t like it. It was very difficult for me. I’ve always been a good student. I got A’s B’s and C’s in high school. But with college, it was very hard for me to concentrate. I was on Adderall for it. I got thinner, and it sort of helped my grades. But I don’t think it was the right time in my life to attempt school again. So I ditched the Adderall and ditched the school and started working full time.
RAY: Who do enjoy working with?
ROMA: I enjoy working with Chanta Rose. She’s a dom.
RAY: Are you submissive?
ROMA: I guess. I mean, I can be an asshole at times. [Laughs] But I’m not a professional dom. Whenever I come out of Chanta’s studio, I feel like I’ve accomplished something. I don’t know if it’s enduring pain, or whatever. But it’s always just a really good experience.
RAY: Anything about porn annoy you?
ROMA: A lot of things. A lot of the girls are nasty.
RAY: Their attitudes?
ROMA: Well, their vaginas too. Occasionally. Not that I myself haven’t had issues.
RAY: Such as?
ROMA: I had a warts scare. But thankfully, I don’t have it. I’ve had yeast infections, BV, all that fun stuff. But I’ve never even had chlamydia or gonorrhea, and certainly nothing more major than that. Which is another reason I’m a little reluctant to stay in the biz. You never know what these dumb bitches are doing. I know a lot of girls who hook. And a lot of them don’t use condoms with their clients. It’s like, awesome… Thanks. It’s fucking sick. Sick motherfuckers. This whole world is going to turn into a sick ball of disease. Because we thrive on that instinct — sex. It’s our basic instinct to fuck each other.
RAY: Who do you want to work with?
ROMA: I prefer working with guys, actually. Although even guys can get a little divaesque. I’m not particular. Good looking, good-hearted, healthy, clean people. That sounds so naive. [Laughs] I once had a problem with a certain performer. He had the worst attitude. He came up my nose. He thought it was the greatest thing ever. The PA was cracking up too. I had to take the director aside. It was ridiculous.
RAY: What do you hope to accomplish in the industry long-term?
ROMA: Actually, I’ve been considering leaving. I have a two year contract with L.A. Direct, so we’ll see how it goes… I would love to maybe write a script for a feature. But I see what producers and directors go through. It’s so stressful. I don’t think I can handle the drama.
RAY: Best scene ever?
ROMA: Best scene was with Kayden Faye in Sex Cult Scenesters for Spice Studios. We had incredible chemistry. I came. It was so awesome. She knows how to work it. It was a really rough scene. I got backed-up against a wall and smacked-around. It just happened. It was my first time cumming on video.
RAY: When was your first time cumming ever?
ROMA: Probably around nine years old. Masturbating with my hand. I was a little horn-dog. I was only fifteen when I first had sex. It was with my best friend at the time. We were best friends and he wanted to “teach me” how to give a blowjob. It progressed from there… I’ve been having sex now for the past six years. That’s a lot of time to look back on.
[Roma's phone rings. It's her mom.]
ROMA: Hi mommy… Actually, I’m doing an interview right now for Porn Valley News. Can I call you back? Okay. Bye.
RAY: That’s sweet. If you could change one thing about porn, what would it be?
ROMA: The ability to choose the performer that you work with. I’ve had situations like “you’re going to be working tomorrow with a Japanese guy.” Well, that’s all fine — except for the fact that they don’t speak English, and their tests and their paperwork aren’t in English.
RAY: What would you do if you weren’t in porn?
ROMA: I’d love to do anthropological work. People and different cultures have always fascinated me. I love to travel, so those go hand-in-hand.
RAY: Are you kind of a hippie? Living down here in Venice Beach?
ROMA: No! Me living here was purely by chance. I had a friend going out of town, and the rent was decent. It’s a great place to live if you need a breath of fresh air… Or somewhere to puke.
RAY: Have you ever used sex to get something you want?
ROMA: Yes and no. To get what I want? No — I haven’t climbed a ladder with my sexuality. But porn is kind of an example of that. I use my sexuality to get paid. And I want to get paid. So yeah, that’s an interesting question.
RAY: Ever have sex with a teacher?
ROMA: No, I wish. That’s actually a huge fantasy of mine. Oh my god, that would be so hot. I once shot a scene like that for InnocentHigh.com I worked with Vin Deacon, who I adore.
RAY: What type of men are you attracted to?
ROMA: Tall, skinny and white. Usually tattooed.
RAY: Do you date?
ROMA: It’s very difficult to date when you are in the adult industry. It takes a toll. People don’t take you seriously. Unless you’re a real guy. Some guys don’t understand that you “fuck other people for a living” — as they like to put it. That doesn’t make you feel too good.
RAY: Worst date you’ve ever had?
ROMA: Worst date was with this guy from Thousand Oaks. He took me to Claim Jumper, which is… You know, sorta nice.
RAY: It is?
ROMA: Yeah, well sorta. Anyway, he was just very inappropriate. He knew one of my phobias was throw-up. I can’t handle anything to do with vomit. Seeing it, smelling it, hearing it… If it’s going to be in a movie, I can handle it. But in person? No. So he kept talking about throw-up while we were eating. I was like “check, please!”. It was awful.
RAY: I find vomit equally disturbing. You say you can handle it in the movies?
ROMA: Well, as long as I’m prepared for it. I can watch it in a movie. Although I don’t understand how girls can do it in porn. Like in Max Hardcore videos. He’s a sick fuck. He pisses in girls’ butt holes! Thankfully I don’t do anal. I’ll never have to worry about shooting for him.
RAY: What ethnicity are you?
ROMA: I’m Russian. Full-Russian. Third generation American.
RAY: Do you have any sexual fantasies left?
ROMA: I would like to have an orgy. I haven’t done that before. That would be fun. Not with just guys, though. I would definitely like some females there. I would love to just go fuckin’ nuts, so to speak.
RAY: Any celebrity crushes?
ROMA: Romain Duris. He’s French. Nobody knows who he is, but he’s an amazing actor.
RAY: Now he’s going to Google his name, read this interview, fly to L.A. and make sweet love to you.
ROMA: I hope he does! He’s fucking hot.
RAY: Is it a turn-of when a guy you’re interested in happens to be a fan of porn? Or you?
ROMA: If he’s a fan of porn, I feel superior. I probably know half the porn stars he’s into. But yeah, it’s a turn-off. It’s hard to explain tho. It’s very complex. I’m not a very well known performer. I’ve had a lot of friends from high school contact me recently. The timing was very suspicious. It was after my first videos were released by BangBros and WeLiveTogether.com. I come from a small town. Everybody knows about it now. I think most people were probably a little shocked.
RAY: What turns you off?
ROMA: Unkempt hygene. Mullets. Bad breath. Dirty, untrimmed fingernails and toenails. My turn-ons are the opposite of what I just said. I’m a sucker for a good smile and good hair. I like tattoos. Piercings sometimes. I like guys with style.
RAY: How do you make sure you get off?
ROMA: I use a vibrator.
RAY: What are the things you won’t do on screen?
ROMA: Anal. I guess that means I’ll never win an AVN Award. Though I do enjoy anal play in my personal life. I like to fuck guys in the ass.
RAY: How do you do that?
ROMA: I use a special dildo. One end goes up the girl, and the other goes up the recipient’s anus. It’s fun, as long as the guy wants it. A lot more guys want it up the ass than most people think. At least in my experience.
RAY: Do you enjoy giving rimjobs?
ROMA: Yes. That’s fun. Absolutely. It’s kind of taboo, that’s why I like it. I mean, there’s really no physical satisfaction for me — and it’s important to be clean, obviously. But rimjobs feel really good. Both to give them and receive them.
RAY: Golden showers?
ROMA: Golden showers don’t really bother me. As long as I don’t have to actually swallow the piss. Otherwise, that can be sort of hot, I guess.
RAY: Do you swallow cum?
ROMA: Yes. I think spitting is actually pretty disrespectful. I mean, you spit if you’re a hooker. If you’re with somebody and you want to be there, why would you spit? Unless it tastes nasty, of course. I suppose it’s a situational thing, but overall, I find it disrespectful.
RAY: Favorite sex position?
ROMA: On my back. Missionary. I can be lazy. [Laughs]
RAY: Do you enjoy giving or receiving oral sex?
ROMA: Receiving.
RAY: Lazy.
ROMA: But giving is fun too! As long as the guy is into it.
RAY: Is that really ever not the case?
ROMA: [Laughs] Never.
