RAY: Where are you from?

CODI: I’m from the East Coast.  Baltimore, Maryland.  I still live there.  A lot of my family is from Kentucky and West Virginia.

RAY: How many interviews have you done?

CODI: This is my first one!

RAY: How young are you?

CODI: I’m 21.

RAY: And you’re a Tom Petty fan?

CODI: I’m a big Tom Petty fan! [Laughs] You heard it on my phone?  It’s on my MySpace too.  

RAY: What’s new with you?

CODI: I just got my boobs done a few months ago.  I got a D-cup.  They went in through the nipple.  They look really good!  I’m excited to get back to work.  I got bored just watching TV.

RAY: How did you come up with your stage name?

CODI: I had a friend in elementary school with the last name Carmichael.  I like that name.  I went with Codi as a first name because it flowed-nicely. I wanted a boy’s name.

RAY: Why porn?

CODI: I was a receptionist for three years.  I worked for a dermatology and a podiatry office.  I kind of liked it, but the pay wasn’t the greatest.  I always wanted to do something that was “out there” — Something that got more exposure.  I was tired of sitting behind a desk.  One day I went on SexyJobs.com and posted a few pictures.  I was thinking I might get a couple of responses.  I checked my email an hour later and I had twenty replies. The next day I had thirty replies, and they didn’t stop coming!  So I talked about it with my boyfriend and told him I decided I wanted to get into the porn business. 

RAY: How did he react?

CODI: We had the standard boyfriend/girlfriend talk.  At first, he only wanted me doing solo and girl/girl porn.  Basically, he didn’t want other guys sticking their dicks in his girlfriend.  I figured cool, that’s what I’ll do.  I thought it would work.  But after talking to a few people in the industry, I quickly realized that doing solo and girl/girl doesn’t amount to much.  You can’t really make a business out of that.  It’s not like it was years ago.  The world is a different place.  You have to do boy/girl or you’re not going to make any money — Especially if you plan to do porn as a career.   So my boyfriend and I talked and we decided to have an open relationship.  We’re cool with everything now.

RAY: How long have you been in porn? 

CODI: Since March 2008.  Most of my scenes have been shot on the east coast.  I’m slowly making my way into Florida and working with directors on the west coast now. One of the things that surprised me about porn in L.A. are the “release form” procedures.  The first company I ever shot for was on the east coast and it was a really low-budget company.  They never took pictures of my ID’s or anything.  But when I shot in L.A., they had the most extensive I.D. procedures and release forms!  I couldn’t believe how intense it was.

RAY: We live in a highly litigious society.

CODI: I guess so!  They’ve got to cover their ass, I suppose.

RAY: What’s it like living in Maryland?

CODI: I love it.  I’ve lived here forever, so it’s what I know.  Baltimore is very low-key, and I’m a very low-key girl.  I like to stay home and sit on the couch.  I like to watch movies and just relax.  I went to L.A. for two weeks and it drove me crazy.  I was constantly calling my boyfriend and all my friends.  I couldn’t wait to get back home.  I absolutely loved the work, but I didn’t enjoy L.A. when I was off the clock.

RAY: What’s the biggest difference between Baltimore and L.A.?

CODI: The way people in L.A. act is very materialistic.  Everything has to be a Lexus or a Mercedes.  In Baltimore, everybody drives Honda Civics.  [Laughs]  You might see a few expensive cars on the road, but not many.  The girls in L.A. are hilarious.  All they talk about is all the stuff they’re gonna buy with the money they make doing porn.  I’m not out there to spend all my money.  I paint my own nails half the time.  When I relax, I go to the beach.  These girls go to Cabo.  It seems like the girls in L.A. spend as much money as they make.  It’s a bad move.  You never know how long you’re going to last.  My former manager told me how some of her top girls — who make the biggest money — blow through all of it, then end-up calling her to borrow more because they can’t pay their bills.

RAY: How did your family react to your porn career?

CODI: My family does not know anything yet.  I figure I don’t have enough material out there for them to stumble upon.  They know I model, but they think I do mainstream stuff.  A lot of my family is very low-key.  Most of them don’t even have computers.

RAY: Parents still together?

CODI:  No.  My parents divorced when I was nine years old.  My dad re-married.  I hope they don’t disown me when they find out.  I can see my dad going that route.  My mom might just be disappointed, although I can see her probably still having a relationship with me.  Let’s face it — No parent wants to see their daughter spread her bare ass across a website — and get fucked, no less.

RAY: Unfortunately, some do.

CODI: Really?!

RAY: I’m just being gross.  

CODI: One day, I will eventually have to tell my family, especially because I have two brothers.  One is 23 and the other is 20.  They’re porn fanatics so they’re going to find out first!

RAY: Yeah, you definitely want to warn them.  That shock at 3AM when they find you on a website is not gonna be fun.

CODI: Oh my god! [Laughs]

RAY: Especially if they’re already lubed-up with their pants around their ankles.

CODI:  I don’t even want to imagine that!  My brothers were angry enough when they saw a couple of myspace photos of me in a bikini.

RAY: What kind of crowd did you hang around in high school?

CODI: I was totally conservative in high school.  I was in a dance company all four years, and I only had one boyfriend.  I was a big prude. I had sex with only one person during high school, and I waited until I was 16.  I was the complete opposite of what I’m doing now. 

RAY: So I’m guessing your high school friends would be shocked to learn that you now do porn?

CODI: Some of my friends already know.  If any of my ex-boyfriends find out — Yes, I think they’ll be very surprised.  One of my best friends came into the business with me.  Tia Summers — She’s a really cute little Puerto-Rican girl, with a smokin’ little body.  She got into the business with me at the same time.  She’s making her way to L.A. soon. 

RAY: Do you like to party?

CODI: I drink socially, sometimes.  A lot of the porn girls in L.A. are alcoholics.

RAY: I hadn’t noticed.

CODI: A lot of them are pot smokers, too.  I never saw so many people so open about it.  Around here, we do it behind closed-doors, but it seems like people in L.A. are cool about smoking weed in public.  I heard this crazy thing — I don’t know if it’s true — But people were saying there is actually a medical card you can get that allows you to legally purchase and smoke marijuana?  

RAY: True. 

CODI:  Oh my god!  I was telling people in Maryland about it and nobody believed me. I’ve never heard of anything like that in my life.

RAY: What’s been your favorite scene so far?

CODI: My favorite scene is one that I did for ExploitedTeens.com  That was my first boy/girl scene ever.  I had a great time, it was really fun.  I prefer POV scenes — That’s what I’m used to.

RAY: Do you like working with girls?

CODI: Of course!  That’s always fun.

RAY: How has doing porn affected your life?

CODI: Not a lot yet, actually — Probably because a lot of people still don’t know.  When I come back to town, everything is exactly how I left it.  I do my daily routine.  I drive my shitty car.  I go to the gym.  I buy groceries.  I complain about money.  [Laughs]  I pick up right where things left off.  But ask me that question in a year — I might have a whole different answer for you!

RAY: How did your family and friends react to your boob job?

CODI: I have always wanted a boob job.  I’ve been talking about it since I was 14.  It was for personal reasons — Self-confidence, that sort of thing.  I showed my mom today and got her approval.  She said they looked really good. 

RAY: What do you ultimately hope to accomplish with porn?

CODI:  I would love to do things the way Shy Love did.  She worked the industry to her advantage.  I would like to work as talent, and eventually produce content, and manage girls too.

RAY: What is your ethnicity?

CODI: I’m half German, quarter English, and a quarter Native American.

RAY: What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done in your personal life?

CODI: That’s a tough one.  I was conservative for so long. But I did lose my virginity at the mall on a park bench.  

RAY: Was this an indoor mall?

CODI:  No!  It was one of those benches outside of the mall.  It was around 9PM, right after the mall closed.  I was with my boyfriend. I had just tried alcohol for the first time.  I wanted to impress him.  I wanted him to like me, so I was really nervous.  I was down to try whatever he wanted to do, so I just went for it.  We did it missionary.  

RAY: Anything bother you about porn?

CODI: The expectations placed on girls these days.  They want you to conform to the ‘standards’.  I don’t like the fact that everybody has to be 100 pounds, blonde, and tan with hair extensions.  That’s all very boring to me.  Plus, I’m not a super-skinny girl.  That’s just not my body type.  Most of the guys I talk to don’t like seeing girls who are stick-thin anyway.  They like a girl with some curves.  But they’ve got me on a diet and are expecting me to lose 15-20 pounds before I shoot again in L.A.

RAY: Any interesting hobbies?

CODI: I love to ride a four-wheeler!  My family has a lot of property and there’s nothing I love more than getting out there and getting nice & dirty in the mud with my brothers and my sister, who is a big tomboy.

RAY: Ever had sex with someone forbidden?

CODI: My boyfriend’s best friend.  We always found each other attractive, and always hung out together.  It just kind of happened.  

RAY: Did your boyfriend ever find out?

CODI:  Yes.  He wasn’t happy.  We broke up.  They remained friends for a while.  Then one day the girl his friend was dating ended-up having sex with my ex.  So it kind of reversed on itself.  The guys aren’t friends any more. 

RAY: When you do scenes, do you actually orgasm?

CODI: Yes, I have.  Normally I have orgasms when I play with my clit.  But there have been a couple of times on set — especially when I work with girls.
